Beach Comber (Spotted Sandpiper)

After hiking into a remote beach one spring, I noticed some Spotted Sandpipers feeding where a mountain crick came into the big lake. After a while of trying to get close enough it finally payed off. Though they would leave and come back several times, I was finally able to lay down on the rocks in a place where I could potentially get some shots. Before long a couple sandpiper started working their way in my direction. One eventually came so close I couldn’t focus on it! Though I left that day with a sore neck and back from laying awkwardly all over the rocks for so long, I also left with photos from an amazing encounter with a bird I hadn’t gotten to observe much before.
