Misty Morning Duet (Trumpeter Swans)

This was truly one of the most amazing experiences I’ve ever had photographing birds.

I had arrived at the mist covered lake well before sunrise, dawned my full body ghillie suit and headed to the marshy lakes edge. As I got closer to the shoreline I had to get down on my hands and knees as the cover around me got shorter and there was lots of waterfowl on the lake. Eventually I was able to lay down in a position on the edge of the water where I could get some clear views. Before long, the sun crested the mountain, turning the heavy mist to gold! Within a few minutes these two beautiful Trumpeter Swans swam out in front of me! The amazing thing is they spent the next couple hours right there not 10 yards from my hiding spot! They fed, bathed, and preened giving me lots of splendid photo opportunities.
