One January evening, while walking the property, I suddenly noticed a bird sitting in a tree not 10 ft away. I quickly realized it wasn’t an ordinary bird and went scrambling back to the house to get my camera. When I returned the little owl was still in the area and continued to ignore me! Northern Pygmy Owls are very small (that’s a T-post he’s sitting on) but are known to be ferocious hunters, sometimes killing prey up to 3 times there own size! I was delighted to have had such a cool encounter with such a cool bird. Shutter speeds were slow so I took a separate shot to freeze the snow flakes and combined them in post.
