Still Water Watcher (Great Blue Heron)

Once while birding in Oregon, I was walking the shoreline of a calm bay when I saw this Great Blue Heron posted up on a half submerged log waiting and watching, as they do for so much of they’re days. It’s a special treat when you get to watch one of these magnificent birds suddenly strike out lightning fast and pull up a fish or frog! I’ve been blessed to witness it a couple times and what always amazes me is that they then proceed to swallow the fish whole. The second time I saw it happen, it was a good sized Yellow Perch (Photo in gallery) and the heron needed the help of a few gulps of water to get it down! Really fun to watch!
